Our School Council

Our School Council

At St. Breward Primary school we believe it is vitally important that all our children have the opportunity to contribute their ideas and opinions about life in the school.

What is a School Council?

Our School Council is made up of 1/2 representatives from every year group. They meet on a fortnightly basis on Tuesday. Children on the school council discuss a variety of suggestions and ideas to improve our school, as well as organising events to raise money for charity. Some of their roles include:

  • Listening to the views and concerns of other pupils
  • Representing the views and opinions of other children and discussing them
  • Suggesting ideas to improve the school
  • Thinking of ways to contribute to our wider community
  • Fundraising for a selection of charities
  • Having the responsibility for a budget
  • Interviewing prospect staff to join our school

Parents, Governors and other members of staff are more than welcome to attend any of our meetings to see what we get up to and to learn more about our school council.

Below is a video clip explaining what a school council is and the importance of having one. This clip was taken from 'St John's CofE Primary School and St. Chrysostom's CofE primary school' website.
Children In Need 2019
The school council would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who donated cakes, money and their time to help us raise money for Children In Need. We absolutely smashed last year's total and raised a whopping £107.00! A big amount for a small school.

Silver Learner Participation Award

The School Council at St. Breward Primary school have been working extremely hard all year to earn their Silver Learner Participation award.

The School Council members have actively listened to student voice and taken on board their ideas and opinions of their peers throughout the year. They have implemented a number of their suggestions, including new cooking equipment and a stereo system for outside. This year the School Council have also been focusing really hard on achieving our Healthy School Award. The school has undergone a lot of changes in order to achieve this. The School Council have also raised money for a number of charities including Children in need, Pirate FM’s tonne of tins and Save the children. All members of the School Council had an important part to play, and they have been directly involved with their school and the wider community.

We were delighted to be invited to Truro County Hall on Friday 19th July to be presented with our Silver Learner Participation award. The School Council were all very excited, and presented a well-planned presentation to a number of other schools about the work they had done throughout the year.

The School Council are now working towards obtaining their Gold Learner Participation award.
